Contributor Style Guide

Use precise, institutional language. Keep tone descriptive and procedural.

  • Prefer neutral verbs: “identifies”, “documents”, “describes”.
  • Avoid moral language, calls to action, and political endorsements.
  • Name institutions, not private individuals.
  • Cite primary sources.
  • Write for agency staff who want clarity, not persuasion.

Example revision:

  • “Exposing cruelty loopholes” → “Identifying statutory design features that complicate enforcement”
